Biography


Guillermo Teniente
Associate Director of Orchestra, Sartartia Middle School

 

Guillermo Teniente serves as the Associate Director of Orchestra at Sartartia Middle School, where he is an active conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and educator. In addition to his role in the Fort Bend Independent School District, Mr. Teniente maintains a thriving private cello studio and performs with the Houston Latin Philharmonic and the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra.

 

Previously, Mr. Teniente was the Director of Orchestras from (2020-2023) and Associate Director of Orchestras (2017-2020) at Atascocita High School, in Humble Independent School District. During his tenure, his orchestras consistently achieved Sweepstakes Superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sight-reading, and earned honors such as "Best in Festival" and "Outstanding Performance" at the Blue Bonnet Music Festival. Notably, his varsity and non-varsity orchestras were invited to perform at the 2020 Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis.

 

Before relocating to Houston, Mr. Teniente was based in Laredo, Texas, where he served as the low strings instructor at Laredo Community College and as a music professor at Texas A&M International University for four years. In 2012, he was appointed Music Director of the Laredo Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, where he mentored some of the most talented young musicians in his community.

 

His recent accolades include being named a 2024 Mark of Excellence National Winner for Varsity Orchestra and a Commended Winner for Non-Varsity Orchestra. He co-conducted the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) State Honor Orchestra and presented at the 2025 TMEA Clinic/Convention on "String Technique: Insights, Perspectives, Pedagogical Ideas." In March of 2025, he  co-conducted a performance at the ASTA National Conference and received first place in the Middle School Orchestra Division.

 

Mr. Teniente holds a Master of Music in Cello Performance with an emphasis on Orchestral Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno. He also earned two degrees in Music Education: a Bachelor’s from West Texas A&M University and a Master’s from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a focus on orchestral conducting. He is currently in the process of becoming certified in the Suzuki Cello Book 1-3.
